DIE BRIGADE is a solid hardcore punk rock formation, brought together by mostly female members of the East German theater collective DIE SPULE in Leipzig. The band’s first appearances were embedded in underground theatrical performance shows during the late 80s and early 90s, taking place in Leipzig’s underground clubs and abandoned suburban industrial areas. As audiences were drawn to the funny and provocative songs, often attending the performances just to hear the music, founding members Kerstin (vocals), Heike (guitar), Haschi (bass), and Jörn (drums) decided to officially form a band and started enjoying playing shows together.
With Jörn Schneider, who had squatted a large basement space in in December 1989 beneath a former VEB Fleischkombinat canteen in leipzig as a rehearsal and performance room with friends, the band found a place to practice, record, and play shows.
Now, with access to the original recording tapes, Hello Records has released a remastered version of their one and only self-published LP, „Unter der Kantine.“
