Die Serie NEW PATHOS setzt an einer kulturellen Konstante an: der allgegenwärtigen Bildsprache des Pathos, die sich in unzähligen religiösen Darstellungen materialisiert. Diese Darstellungen, ob als stilisierte Gebetskarte, als ikonischer Teil eines Hausaltars oder als reines, geometrisches Muster, verfolgen stets spezifische Zwecke. Doch jenseits ihrer doktrinären Unterschiede zeigen sich tiefgreifende Überschneidungen in ihrer Funktion.
Sie schaffen eine greifbare Verbindung zwischen dem Unfassbaren und der Realität – sie materialisieren das Göttliche, die reine Idee, und verankern sie im Raum des Handfesten. Dadurch werden sie zu einem unverrückbaren Ankerpunkt, zu einer visuellen und taktilen Haltefestung für Andacht oder Meditation. Und sobald sie an einem Ort installiert oder real verortet sind, transformieren sie diesen Ort selbst: Sie konstituieren einen spezifischen Raum der potentiellen Begegnung, eine Schnittstelle zwischen dem Inneren des Betrachters und dem transzendenten Bezugspunkt.
Genau an dieser Schnittstelle setzt die experimentelle Arbeit von NEW PATHOS ein. Sie begegnet diesen grundlegenden Ideen nicht mit Verehrung, sondern mit einer künstlerischen Destillation. Die Serie zielt darauf ab, den reinen emotionalen Kern, den Pathos selbst, zu isolieren – ihn aus seinen vertrauten, ideologisch aufgeladenen Hüllen zu befreien. Es geht um eine bewusste Elimination der vorgegebenen Narrative und Glaubenssysteme, um den nackten, wirkmächtigen Affekt freizulegen. Dieser isolierte, von seiner ursprünglichen Bedeutung gereinigte Pathos wird dann zum Rohmaterial. Mit ihm wird experimentiert, er wird in neue, zeitgemäße und oft verstörende Formen gegossen. Die Arbeiten fragen: Was bleibt von der heiligen Ergriffenheit, wenn wir ihre Symbole dekontextualisieren? Können wir eine zeitgenössische Ikonographie der Intensität schaffen, die leer ist von Dogma, aber voll von der Kraft der Begegnung? In dieser Spannung zwischen archaischer Funktion und radikaler Neudeutung sucht NEW PATHOS nach dem Echo des Sakralen in einem post-doktrinären Raum.
