How to become invisible through yarn!
Activism through yarn
Facial / identity recogntion technology became that advanced, that just fragments of a face are need to recognize a person with high propability even in realtime. As we seem to be overwelmend by that intrution of privacy, we can imagine, what might be needed to hide from that kind of surveillance by design. To be unrecognizable for modern tracking systems, we need to cover almost the entrie face, which is quiet uncomfortable and socially akward. By using yarn in form of crochet, lace and knitted structures, it is quiet effective to distort even the most advanced face recognition AI software. As all common models are trained with bare faces, it becomes quiet hard for the AI if key feature of the face are covered.
In the interhuman social context, the facial masks can be read as emboidery or selfmade fashion statement. As yarn based face masks are pretty lightweight and flexible, they will have proper offset each time, which makes it quiet more complicated for the machine to recognize repetition patterns.
The following web based drawing tool is made to sketch a basic layout with simple symmetry functions. Generative AI is used to generate plausible textile structures from that raw sketch, that might be knittable in real life.
